Born into a wealthy family, American artist Mary Cassatt traveled to Europe to study art after attending the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Greatly inspired by Degas, she ended up living in Paris and was introduced to the Impressionists. Focusing largely on the theme of mother and child, she captures both the soft sweetness and relaxed natural comfort of her subjects.
