A photograph taken November 16, 1937, of the great bridge spanning the Hudson River between Washington Heights in upper Manhattan (Riverside Drive and 179th Street) and Fort Lee, New Jersey--from Abbott's Changing New York project (1935-38), which sought to document the rapidly changing built environment of "the world's greatest metropolis." Changing New York was supported by the Federal Art Project (FAP) of the Works Progress Administration (WPA).
